I just browsed the usa.canon.com website to look at the specs on the
two i series, i850 and i860 series. One noticeable difference is in the
i850 specs, they list Standard Emulation: Canon Extended Mode. The
i860 series specs do not include this statement. Do you have it hooked
up parallel (preferred) or USB? The other place I looked was the DDPAK
online: http://www7.software.ibm.com/2bcprod.nsf and found the only
driver for i850 was the omni driver. No listing for i860. However if
you haven't updated the omni driver in a while, you might download it
again and see if it's newer than the one you have.

I had a similar problem as you a long time ago with my epson driver. I
cannot remember how I fixed it, seemed to involve removing all the
drivers and starting over. Yours sounds like it's printing to null or
the wrong port.
