Richard and Bob are near the coast. I doubt if they got any ice down
there. I, however, am located in the dark and cold Upstate.

I was pretty lucky - my power came back on Thursday afternoon (Thank you,
Broad River Electric Co-op). My father lives in town, though, and is on
Duke Power. His power has been out since 11:30 Wednesday night, and it
doesn't look like it will be back on until Tuesday or Wednesday at the
earliest since his is one of only two houses on his street that are still
dark. That makes him pretty low priority.

He has gas logs, so he wouldn't freeze. But he didn't have any way to heat
any food and was sitting in the dark most of the time (note to self - buy
him some flashlight batteries!). Once his sister's power came back on
Thursday night, I managed to convince him to go stay there since both he
and my step-mother have both been sick with colds for the last couple of
weeks.

I spent yesterday afternoon clearing out his refrigerator and freezer. Ugh.
I think I'm going to have to add that to my list of things to do regularly
when they're not home. Lots of science experiments were hidden away on the
backs of some of the shelves.

Driving around is still pretty bad - not because of ice, though. Since the
ground isn't frozen, most of the roads never got too bad, and they melted
off pretty quickly. It's because of the downed trees that are still on the
roads. Going around curves can be... interesting.
