Adam,
If you mean to follow "Keep this Side Up" with packages, yes. But
then = customers put their airbills on the wrong side of the package, and
for = the package to successfully make it through the various sorts, it has
to = go on the conveyor wrong side down.
Oh wait a minute, I figured out what you meant by "keepy uppy".
Keep up = with the flow. It is a tradeoff. Honestly FedEx does stress to
their = employees to treat packages carefully. But OTOH time constraints
cause = some fudging. I.e. it is a no-no to toss a package on to the
conveyor = belt during the morning sort. But gently lofting one on to the
belt is = OK ;->
At my station during the morning sort we are expected to remove 4,500 =
packages (the normal non-holiday amount I guess) from the semis that =
bring them in and sort them in 1 hour. This AM we did 7,500 in an hour =
and ten. Did I toss some packages on to the belt, sure, but those that =
obviously could withstand the flight. I also carefully placed several =
hundred packages on the belt as did other around me.
