I'm sure that depends on what the machine is being used for.

As far as I can see, we put 101 key keyboards on the desks some years ago
and people kept both hands on the keyboard and type in excess of 100wpm.

Now we give them a 3 button mouse as well so they put one hand under their
chin, and quietly click around the screen.

I'm not so sure that a GUI *has* increased productivity, all it means is
they don;t have to learn the menu quick keys. Such quick keys are far more
efficient than clicking and do not need the overheard of a GUI.

We have descended into the world of "brain dead" computing,
nothing to do with productivity.
