SL> It's common practice in this area to add aquarium salt in those
SL> proportions. We run 40 20 gal. tanks for tropicals here and a few
SL> 55's. Every one of them has salt including all the ones that the
SL> plants are kept in with no problems. Been running this way for nearly
Well, the water we get is from the aquilifer, via a well, and
being on beach can have salt incurse, sometimes the ICE Cubes taste
a little salty, the point is with some water, one really does not
know the amount of salt already there, unless using
water like distilled, rain, a source known to have little or no salt
dissolved already in it.
If it works for all of you "add salters" fine, but
i'll give it a pass.
I'm not totally knocking adding salt, just saying it
can be TRICKY, especially for beginners, who are apt to think
if it is good to put in a spoon ful, 2-3 spoonfuls must be even better
;-)
I still recall some "dumb" things I did as a beginner,
especially overdoing Meds thinking that more would work faster ;-/
