Hello Tom -

TW> I haven't heard must about the Wine prohect lately. Is it
TW> stalled ro soem reason. IF one could make a LINUX machine
TW> run it seemed the best of Two worlds. I pull the leg of a
TW> friend of mine once in a while and when he gets tired he
TW> always brings up theri "Software Windows Emulation" :-)

There are ports of Linux software to Windows at the GNU/Win
website and at SourcForge you often find both Linux and Windows
binaries. I think this fact plus the improved versions of Linux
software has lowered the interest level of those wanting to use
Windows software on a Linux machine?

TW>>> They are pushing their Subscription service heavely.

CA>> Here it seems they are pushing the cheap hardware more
CA>> than what OS it is using.

TW> That is after you buy. You some FREE time, I don't
TW> specificly recall how much but it was enough for you to
TW> pack the hard drive, with the Purchase of the Computer.
TW> After that you have to pay per year fro a subscription.

Last time I checked the cost to gain access to their 'other'
software was $99 per year.

TW> They claim some 2000 titles on the Web site avaialble for
TW> intalling.

Could be, I never checked.

TW> Adn as I mentione apparently it is fairly automated. Click
TW> o na selection and sit back and follow a few instructions
TW> and it is done. NO fooling with finding the downloaded file
TW> etc.

And, as I mentioned, there are similar arrangements for other
Linux distributions that do not charge a yearly fee for access.

CA>>> Some of the names jumping on the Linspire bandwagon are;
CA>>> Wal-Mart, Fry's, Amazon.com, MicroCenter Online, CompUSA,
CA>>> PC Club, New Egg, Best Buy, PC Mall, J & R Com, and Tiger
CA>>> Direct. Most are internet only sales though. Someone else
CA>>> other then me must think it has soemthing going for it.

CA>> Most of the companies you list above are guilty of
CA>> unethical business practices or are just outright
CA>> dishonest. These are the same companies that would have
CA>> sold Packard-Bell a few years ago.

TW> Intersting Insight. Linspire might be the Modern Day
TW> Packard Bell. eMachines gave it a try but then got their
TW> act together. Adn now they have made the Big Time.

Not sure if it was eMachines getting their act together or Dell
and Gateway becoming cr*p?

TW> I wish Robertson the same luck.

I have no interest in Robertson either way.
