Hello Paul!

AW>> I can't see this working for a number of reasons Paul. For

AW>> starters, there's already at least one CD-ROM title

AW>> available with thousands of recipes. And I don't think women

PE> Can I get a copy of it for free, or do I have to pay for it? If it isn't

PE> PD, it effectively hasn't been done.

OK....so they aren't free. If you're interested, these are the ones

AW>> be like. I can't see them trusting a recipe sight unseen

AW>> from your archive which may have been put there by someone

AW>> with a strange sense of taste or whatever. And lets face

PE> You can say the same about commercial books. You can't tell which

PE> commercial book suits your taste. If you find a contributor that has

PE> something you like, you can try another one of their recipes. That's one

PE> reason for having the name of the contributor there.

Fair enough.

AW>> it, if you want this thing to be spread all over the world,

AW>> you'll have to realize that not all nationalities and races

AW>> would agree on the things that tickle their tastebuds.

PE> Of course, but most people prefer variety, even I have developed the urge

PE> to try out stuff from other countries (I used to be the world's most

PE> un-food-inspired person). Once it's in the PD, it's done FOREVER. BFN.

So how would this thing look. Do you intend adding a front end to

allow boolean searches or would it just be an unstructured collection of

recipes? If I looked in the fridge and found only 1/2 a kilo of chicken

wings left, it would be nice to have the capability of searching on

recipes that contain "chook wings" and "mustard" but
not "gluten"

(just a dumb example). I think if something is going to be computerised,

it should have at least one standout feature to encourage people to

use it rather than the more conventional format of cookbooks.

And what format and detail do you require recipes to be in? Maybe you want
everything metric and exact. A lot of old classic recipes have a vagueness

that don't really lend themselves to storage in a computer.

Alan...
