RH> We're still new home owners, and enjoying that. We will be taking more
RH> trips, don't know how many long ones, but got this so we could do
RH> touristy things. I'm trying to figure out where the best place to stow a
RH> sewing machine for easy access will be.

We bought out house in Anchorage in 1989. We started going outside in December
of 2004, and drove the highway both directions up until April 2009. Bought
another 5th wheel in Lake Havasu that spring also. Kind of got tired of the
drive, spend a week getting through Canada each direction, and it's not cheap I
might add (actually cheaper to fly). Started flying back and forth starting
the fall of 2009, we bought a used car the first year in Las Vegas from
Enterprise and drove it down to here in Arizona.

I know what you mean about storage. The RV in Alaska is small than this one in
Arizona. But, the one up there has more storage for some reason, and things
are laid out better in the kitchen too.

RH> In/out of McCarrin? We've gone in/out of there a number of times while
RH> visiting our daughter and her family.

Yeah. I fly in/out of McCarran, then I rent a car, one day/one way, to drive
back here the next day. Leave my car here and reverse the rental car in the
spring. I don't do a shuttle since they leave at o'dark thirty and drop at the
airport (only) around 9am. Plus the cat doesn't have a bladder big enough to
hold it from 5am to 2pm comfortably until when we can check into a motel. My
wife was pretty adamant about not flying a bunch of hours per day, basically if
there's more than 6 hours of flight time we spent the night mid-way if
possible, and I've kept up the practice. If I was to get to the airport, in
Anchorage 2 hours before to get a taxi to the airport, check in, get through
security (traveling with the cat I have to check in at the airport because of
her, then her security process is a little different from the normal passenger
process that I have), fly to Seattle, change planes fly to Las Vegas, get a
rental car, go to the motel. It's about an 11 hour day in the
plane/airport/driving around LV (still have the cat in her carrying case and I
have to go to a store and buy a disposable litter box for her, I pack a little
food for her in the suitcase). Then I can find a beer and something to eat
before sitting down in front of the TV with a blank stare and pretend to watch
it.

RH> In one of your favorite places, I presume. Do you still go to AZ for
 RH> part of the year?

I fly out of Anchorage usually the first week of November (2 years ago it was
on Halloween EEK!). I go back the first week of April. The RV in Alaska is
parked on a very small piece of property that Connie and I bought about a month
before she died. It's 165 road miles from Anchorage, probably 60 air miles.
