Hello Tom -

CA>> It is also true that GM, Ford, and Chrysler own a good
CA>> sized chunk of those same Japanese automobile companies.

TW> The lines are blurinbg. BUT fortunatly they have not
TW> affected the Styling of those Foreign entieties then
TW> control. Exaple is Mazda. FORD is in total control, but
TW> puts out Mech bettewr cars than FORD. In fact sadly the
TW> Mazda Truck which FORD rebadged as the Courier PU was a
TW> very high quality Vehicle. Shortly after FORD brought out
TW> their own Small PU they started re-badging them and selling
TW> them as Mazda's here. It is a decided step down in quality
TW> for the old Mazda Produced vehicles.

I don't own, drive, or even drive in as a passenger enough
vehicles to have an awareness of quality differences. Perceived
'quality' and actual quality may not be identical. If, for
instance, there are no knowledgeable Chrysler mechanics in your
area the _perceived_ quality (numbers of not-well-running
Chryslers) in your area would be very high.

In other words, I don't really know which vehicles are
'quality' vehicles.

TW> The Strange one is the Subaru/GM/Saab relationship. Saab
TW> now sells a Subaru, related to the WRX, as a Saab. Like
TW> they say, "You cannot tell the Players Without a Program".
TW> BUT in all this one thing stands out. The Foreign Designed
TW> cars are of Bettewr fit and finish and overall quality(at
TW> least for now) still thankfully than the GM/FORD/Chrysler
TW> native product.

Again, I can't honestly say I've noticed a difference. I've
noticed some poor body-design that makes a vehicle _appear_ to
be fit together in an odd way but it was the shape of the body,
not the actual 'fit'.

TW> Saddly as time goes on I expect to see a decline in the
TW> Quality of the Froeign Badges controlled by the Detroit
TW> Bean Counters.

I can't say that I'm impressed by many new vehicles either
their quality, their 'styling' (none?), or their mechanical
abilities (if any). I do like front wheel drive for Michigan
winters but I do _not_ like four wheel drive vehicles.

Michigan roads are in _terrible_ repair and I no longer am
confident to travel any faster than I must to get from point
"A" to point "B" plus I am no longer on a time-clock and can
arrive when I get there. :-)
