Hello Tom -

CA>> What Windows will do when first installed is what many of
CA>> us are accustom to doing with a computer. This may or may
CA>> not be the best use of a computer but it's what we do
CA>> (access websites, play music, edit graphics/video, some
CA>> IM'g, etc.). Many Linux installs either will not do those
CA>> things as installed or can only do those things to a
CA>> limited degree when compared to Windows as installed.

CA>> Once you being adding/tweaking/etc. the comparison falls
CA>> to the person who is best suited to do that
CA>> tweaking/adding/etc.

TW> I clipped some out of those reviews for brevity. But The
TW> GEEK covered the VERY Bare Bones Install and that even most
TW> of the things he needed to do tweeking was NOT on the
TW> Release CD but had to be Downloaded from their Web site.
TW> BUT it was basicly avaialble. I find that not unexpected
TW> concidering the market he apparently wants to address. BUT
TW> it would put a kink in things for the more computer aware
TW> that wants to tune up the system a bit. BUT they then have
TW> any number of LINUX releases avaialble for them to play
TW> with and they should pass on Linspire.

TW> On the novice review it was actualy someones Mother that
TW> did the install while he observed. She was only casualy
TW> fimilar with computers having done some wrodprocessing with
TW> MS word. IT went smoothly and without a hitch. The
TW> differences between MS Word and Open Office did take a
TW> short time for her to get used to.

TW> Overall though I think some amount of sucess for his
TW> project WILL be good for Computering overall. Not that MS
TW> wil lpay much attention but that it might "Inspire" the
TW> other distributions to "De-Geek" an edition for the Novice
TW> Market.

I agree that having options is a good thing if they are
workable options that is. :-

I was disappointed to find the maintainers of Niklaus Wirth
OBERON to be disinterested in making OBERON more user friendly
than I found it at that time. It is quite different from other
OS and would be, for some, a refreshing change from the
same-same of our most popular OS to date. As it is, last I
knew, it is not user friendly nor does it appear that it ever
will be. :-(
