Hello, I have found several references that claim that on 01/17/1964,
backstage at The Olympia Theater in Paris, The Beatles learned that "I
Want To Hold Your Hand" was #1 on the Billboard charts in America.
Unfortunately, the song would not appear in that position until Feb 1st,
which was two weeks later.
Anyone got a plausible explanation? Could it be:
1) The date they learned about reaching #1 is incorrectly stated?
2) Sales were so great that Capitol knew the song would top the chart
two weeks in advance? 3) The song topped another chart besides Billboard
on that date?
