Hello Tom -

CA>>> NO, But at least it is Practical for the Masses. The NEW
CA>>> Apple OS is FAR better and has many possabilities but the
CA>>> Software selection is somewhat lacking. Basicly the "NIX"
CA>>> selections lack a reat deal compaired to what the Windows
CA>>> World offers.

CA>> If/when people decide to pay for third-party Linux
CA>> software much of what is now Windows software will be
CA>> ported to Linux.

TW> That is a pipe dream

Arachne GUI browser for DOS was ported to a Linux version,
Netscape was originally a Windows browser, OPERA, and others
were all Windows software at the start but now offer a Linux
version.

As GNU/Win ports Linux to Windows the door swings the other way
as well. Not as often but it does swing. :-)

TW> NO one is going to start porting untill NIX becomes a real
TW> posabilbity for the typical Basicly computer Super Novice
TW> user.

(see above)

As for the "Super Novice User" I still know people whose VCRs
are flashing "12:00:00" at them all day long. People continue
to burn themselves trying to reheat their cold coffee in
microwaves after confusing minutes with seconds, etc.

The "pipe dream" is that everyone will use a computer with the
same efficiency as everyone else. Some people just won't "get
it" and many just don't _need_it_.

TW> And so far even Knoppix is NOT there yet. Incidently I
TW> concider the Boot Title "LINUX for Dummies" an Oxymoron
TW> something like "Military Intelegence".. :-) :)

I agree Linux is _not_ for dummies but neither are newer
versions of Windows or even OBERON. ;-)
