From: "Ronnie T. Mungo, Boy Genius"
I can't say. I've never been there on New Year's. Believe it or not,
biggest city I've been on New Year's Eve was Alice Springs.
Since I've been old enough, I've always enjoyed the new year's entry in the
wide open. There's something spiritual in a different sense, seeing the
starting of a new year somepleace such as the Grand Canyon, or Uluru. Last
year, it was the western end of the Canyon. This year the northeastern end.
I'm not much for being jostled about by a crowd. I suppose in many ways I
must be a loner at heart, but I prefer a small crowd of my close friends to
a mob of strangers.
To each their own, though. I say, whatever brings one pleasure is the best
way to enjoy it. I surely don't see a reason for others not to just because
my tastes are different.

By the way, my Native American hosts gave me a display of traditional
ceremonies, then showed me some of the old-fashioned bow and arrow
trickeries their grandparents and great-GPs would do with flaming arrows.
Very impressive. My favorite line... "Hey, white man... you wouldn't
have a covered wagon, would you?"
