Hello Wayne -

TW>>> Open Office is an excellent example. It is a Second best

Seems to depend on what MSWord program created the ".doc" file
though. I don't recall exactly how this worked but my MSWord v2
resume was fine until about v4 then it had to be rewritten
until v6 etc. There was a good deal of formatting involved in
the file and redoing it was a pain (to me).

When I worked as a consultant we purchased a program for $100
that could convert between all of the popular word processing
software of the time with few, if any, mistakes.

WC> I've got F-86.doc on /dev/fd0 and

Trying to read various MSWord versions might net you somewhat
less success. That a word processing file format had to change
as much and as often as MSWord was changing seemed a bad
business decision and I'm not a business trying to retain
archives of past documents.
