| subject: | Re: Front Door / ComIP |
-> Uhh ... dude, before you go flying off the handle ... Not at all! I am not flying off the handle... I asked a simple question. It is easy to get FD running via telnet for inbound, no doubt, because I have done that, it works fine on the mailer end. Due to the lack of the ability of FD to handle the length of the proper init strings however, it has failed miserably for running the BBS of of it. It passes to the BBS, but echoes every character, even though the BBS has the proper ints. When running the BBS by itself, no problems at all, all is perferct, but the init string problem with FD carries over to the BBS when it carries over from FD. So... I'll ask again. Does anybody have FD running via telnet, inbound and outbound, with it passing to the BBS without flaw for BBS callers, and if so, please shed some light on my end on the workaround that is obviously needed. Don't ask me why... simply, because I know it's been done, and I'd like to do the same, for whatever -why- might be... either somebody knows the answer, or nobody does. I am not new to the SysOp game, and seldom does something ever make me ask, as I RTFM constantly, but I need help on this one. I don't "fly off the handle"... I just get frustrated by people who don't know the answer, and ask me why I would want to do it in the first place, provide no useful answer but rather questions on it, and wonder why I do get angry when I go through DefSol and they refer me to "third party" people, or those who have done it, but at least they don't ask me -why-. -> I HAVE FrontDoor running here via telnet and HAVE been. It answers all 3 of -> my nodes. That's how I get my fidonet mail. I have 2.33.mL ... reg'd it -> when it was 2.20c.mL ... I loved sending my money to sweden, just loved that -> $4.00 stamp! Okay... do you have it working outbound with Com/IP? That is what i need to know at this point. I already have it able to work inbound, but that is useless to me without the outbound. As to the regging... avoided 4bux stamp by doing it online, and the tech support leaves alot to be desired. Lost a hard drive, and requested my reg codes again, and that took just a day or two under a month to actually get them. I wonder if support mail is checked there regularly, or if it just doesn't matter. Pitty the poor people running shareware FD on faster CPU's that get an errorlevel 200. They reply with "a patch hasn't been made for that yet, and we don't know when/if it will be, shell out and upgrade to ML"... as was the case with another local SysOp here. He shelled out because he rufused to leave FD behind.. IMO, they should have just regged him for something that worked as a courtesy. They made sure the ML version worked, what is so different for the 2.26 users, which are the ones who probably provided the highest amount of regs in the first place? Understand, please, I am not flying off of anything... just that DefSol Ave. seems to be a dead end street at times, and I was hoping (praying) that this would be diferent. -> The original poster was talking about having it just "poll" out while someone -> is online. For one, you'd have to have another TASK and another "com port -> virtual" setup to do so, and the user would see NOTHING while it did this. Yea... tasks are a given... event1.fd, event2.fd, route1.fd, etc... the whole idea is for the BBS user to see nothing, and have it operate no different than if set up on multiple nodes via dial-up with rollover numbers. I have gone the route of using Com/IP with virtual modems rather than just emulated comports to the same result of naught. ANY help you can provide will not be accepted with notbhing less than grace, and praises... it seems that the short init strings alloweed by FD won't let it work as I need. -> Telnet over -> telnet://ttb.slyip.com -> Or poll me with a mailer to see. ;) I would -LOVE- to poll, shed light on what I need to do for the outbound, and I -WILL-... you would make my year.
