You should have bought the SFM or Sonic model for running a BBS from.
They're more robust, and have a full compliment of features.
Supra has to have a "bargain model", so it's a pretty sound marketing
decision, IMHO.  :-)  (And it's a lot better than many other "bargain modems"
out there.)
