  Do a web search for VNC.  I am using it to control my BBS computer
  over my LAN, but believe that if I opened up the appropriate ports in
  my router that I could control it over the internet as well.

  The particular version that I use can be found at
    http://ultravnc.sourceforge.net/
  But there are other versions.
