And, I have tried the HDDs plugged into the cable without the racks. To further stir the pot, the BIOS boot sequence is set floppy-CD ROM-Hard Disk. It will boot from FDD and HDD. I have several bootable CDs including Symantec System Works, DFSEE, eCS 1.1. None of them boot. Both W4 and eCS install, booted from install floppies, install stops - I assume - at the point where it first attempts to access the CD. The CD drive is accessible after booting from FDD or HDD.
