EG> I would like to know if it is possible to have one be DOS and
EG> one be OS/2?
Yes. Probably the easiest way is to use Boot Manager. Boot from the OS/2
install discs, choose advanced installation, and choose to manually select
the installation drive. When the installation program runs FDISK, as it
will, install Boot Manager, create a single FAT primary partition on drive 0,
and create a single primary HPFS partition on drive 1. Add both partitions
to Boot Manager using the menu. Save your changes and exit, but don't bother
completing the OS/2 installation process just yet.
Reboot and install DOS on the primary FAT partition on drive 0. This will
disable Boot Manager. Boot from the OS/2 install floppies once more and
install OS/2 to the primary HPFS partition on drive 1. You will have to use
the advanced install, since the easy install assumes that you are installing
OS/2 to the primary partition on drive 0. This will have the side effect of
re-enabling Boot Manager.
Whenever your machine boots from then on, Boot Manager will be given control
first, and you can choose whether to boot DOS from the primary FAT partition
on drive 0, or OS/2 from the primary HPFS partition on drive 1.
Although there are lots of things that one should be aware of when coming
from the DOS world (OS/2 is not DOS, and does not share many of its quirks
and limitations), two things to note are that (unlike DOS) OS/2 can be
installed on and boot from any partition of any drive as long as you use Boot
Manager, and that when you have the option of using HPFS and Boot Manager,
rather than FAT and Dual Boot, as you happen to do, then it is _strongly_
recommended that you use them.
