| subject: | terminal mode terminally bad |
Richard Webb wrote in a message to all: RW> I've been a Binkleyterm booster from when I started, and still am, RW> but the terminal mode has some glaring weaknesses which either RW> should be addressed, RW> or the terminal mode itself dropped. BinkleyTerm is a mailer, not a terminal program. The way I see it, I get a decently-functional terminal for free along with my free mailer. I don't see the reasoning for dropping support for the terminal portion just because it's doesn't do everything. RW> Many times, when calling a bbs which insists on using ansi RW> graphics, I've gotta wade through all that crappola. AS a speech RW> user the garbage characters obscure prompts, etc which are RW> necessary. How does BinkleyTerm's terminal program cause this problem? It sounds like a configuration problem with the called BBS. RW> To compound the problem, the damn terminal seems to want to omit RW> characters in the middle of words, etc. Doesn't happen here. May be a configuration problem with your buggy fossil, or a system configuration issue. Why does this indicate that it's a BinkleyTerm problem? IMO, BinkleyTerm's ability to act as a terminal is a nice plus that I choose to accept gratefully. If I need features that aren't available in the BT Term, like VT220 emulation, I shell out to DOS and use Procomm Plus. I won't demand that BinkleyTerm be a full-featured terminal program - it's a mailer. --- timEd 1.10+* Origin: realitycheckBBS - San Francisco, CA +1 415 666 0339 (1:161/418) SEEN-BY: 50/99 157/534 620/243 622/419 623/630 625/100 626/660 665 667 668 SEEN-BY: 626/670 633/2 640/820 711/401 409 410 413 416 430 501 808 809 934 SEEN-BY: 711/955 712/515 713/888 714/906 800/1 @PATH: 161/418 84 55 270/101 396/1 157/110 534 626/660 711/401 808 934 |
