Hi Ed,
ml> this sounds like you are talking about the Maidenhead Locators or
ml> the old QRA Locator...
ml> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maidenhead_Locator_System
ml> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QRA_locator
EV> I never heard the term "Maidenhead Locator System" B4, I think
EV> HamGrid is what I've heard it called by.
The Maidenhead locator is a new more exact version of the QRA Locator,
and it covers the entire world. The QRA Locator was originally configured
to cover only Europe.
EV> I used QRZ.COM and learned that the place I remembered in the EJ
EV> grid is also in the EM78 grid, it just has a different set of Lower
EV> Case Letters after it than what my location has.
The QRA Locator had only one letter after the numbers, while the Mdh
locator has originally two.
It has later been expanded with more letters to give a more exact
position, but to my knowledge, it's not used in ham radio.
EV> ... Three of the four basic food groups: pies, ice cream and cake.
Add coffee to that, hi.
CU L8ER,
Holger
