The NIC, the router, and the modem all have MAC addresses. My cable guy
said it isn't a big deal. When installation is made initially to a
windoze puter to which is later added a router, one usually just sets
the router to spoof the MAC address of the NIC. Barring the bother to
figure out how that is done (which is quite simple via your web
browser), just disconnect the modem from the puter and leave it off for
several hours. When you turn it back on, it will have forgotten the MAC
address of the NIC, and happily accept any new one it finds, wherever it
finds it.
All modern routers can spoof the MAC address on the NIC in the official
computer.
Since your computer is an unsupported OS/2 computer, you can't use it
anyway. Hook up the router to the modem before anything else in the DSL
installation and you should be perfectly fine.
