You're right.

I used to work writing anti-virus software (Virex) and one aspect of my job
was to dissect new viruses as they came in. I can tell you unequivocally
that virus writers are, in fact, the very poorest programmers. Most
viruses don't even survive or propagate reliably under DOS (a much easier
target!) -- the likelyhood of a successful
OS/2 virus is vanishingly small. I would hope that by the time an
individual learned enough technically to write such a thing, this
individual would be sufficiently ethically evolved not to want to.
