Not sure whether your model used 14k4 fax or not but for BGFax
check to see whether it does adaptive answering.  Try these commands
in terminal mode:   AT+FAA=1 (switches on adaptive answering Class2)
                    AT+FAE=1 (switches on adaptive answering Class1)

Reply with the responses to the above and if no ERROR then will
revert with BGFax in rearend mode (well, the ones I use here) strings
