You don't need any sort of trick to write to the 80th column when programming,
so its not a programming issue at all.  Its about terminal emulation.

If you don't scroll after you print to that last column on the last line, then
you are breaking ANSI-BBS emulation.  As far as I know SyncTerm breaks ANSI BBS
standard in order to fix an annoying ANSI limitation.  And thats great but...

Do you want your BBS to display correctly only when using SyncTerm, or do you
want it to display accurately when using all ANSI BBS terminals?

Anyway, I suspect you may be talking about a different problem all together
since you mentioned the status line turning off thing.
