I was curious about this, so I just did some checking.  I'm using Lord 4.07
beta, Dec. 04, 2003 compilation.  Apparently it now limits you to one
dragon battle per day as you suspected.  I killed the dragon, exited Lord
and used Lpedit to allocate enouch Experience to the player to go back up
to Level 12 quickly.  Went into forest when I was level 12 again, and did
Search option - which does not show up on the options menu at all
incidentally.  When you do S, you get the following message:

You are shaking so badly from your previous encounter, you deem it wise to
wait and gather your strength.

The character thanks to usage of Lady scripts had 28,894 strength, 31,688
max hitpoints, and 25,125 defense points.  More than enough to quickly
defeat the dragon any day usually.  So I guess Preslar finally decided that
there was no logical reason why people should be able to kill dragon, rise
up 12 levels, and do it over in the same day.  Personally, I think it is
about time he did this.  There is too much abuse in the game already from
people using combinations of various IGMs to rise up quickly in experience
and other stats.

The lady scripts can be abused easily too in Lord 4.07 beta, if the sysop
is using Lord in start.bat with it configured to allow use of X key in
forest to run test.ldy script.  But until Lord can allow the script writer
to know who has used the script earlier in day, and limit uses per day,
there is little we can do about that situation.  Donald.
