Hrello Al and listers,
Your not alone. I too shoveled my share of snow when I lived in the
Boston Area. The worst snow storm I remember was the blizzard of 1978.
that storm shut down the State of Massachusetts for a week. We had to
shovel paths not only to the side walk, and remove the snow from the
drive way, but we had to shovel paths to the rubbih shead, and to the
garbage swill. And back then the swill was a unit that was placed in the
ground. I had to probe with the shovel to find it and then I had to
uncover the thing. By the time we began digging ourselves out the snow
was so compacted that I had to use a pick and a spade in order to break a
path to these conveyances. It was so bad that I couldn't even get out to
my guide dog's relief area and let him relieve in the back yard. It was a
week before the City of Brockton finally got our streets plowed and we
could once more get around.
i can't forget about walking down the middle of Main Street in Brockton
during that storm. And on another night I, and several others went to a
local Fernandez Store in order to get groceries. since there was a bann
on nonessential driving we had to pack the stuff home on foot. I remember
that I was the only one that brought a back pack, and guess who got to
carry the heavy items. It was a good five miles between our home and the
supermarket, but we did what we had to do in order to get through that
storm.
Here in South Texas we get snow very rarely, but this year we're in the
grip of El nino, (Pronounced El Neenyo.) What we get of this remains to
be seen. So far it has been cold and rainy here, but who knows we just
might see snow this year. Now wouldn't that be nice for Christmas?
