I know, it's an old message...but...
Disney can renew the copyright without having to release anything. All they
need to do is fill out a couple of forms, and FedEx them to the US Copyright
and Patents office. Once done, the movies are protected for another 28
years. Disney then can choose to release them or not release them. But since
they are protected, no one else has that choice -- no one else can release
them.
