MH>SD> Thanks for the info. I have three APC UPSes sitting here: one with a goo
MH>SD> battery and two with dead batteries. I'd like to get the smaller one
MH>SD> working again to keep my router and cable modem running just in case of
MH>SD> power outage to at least get everything shut down properly.
MH>I learned another interesting thing about APC UPS units earlier this year. J
MH>because they don't turn on at all, doesn't mean they are broken. Almost
MH>always, it is a bad battery issue.
MH>Without a decent battery, some will not turn on at all. Removing the batter
MH>and plugging it in the wall will still prevent it from turning on. The batt
MH>must be installed.
MH>I probably threw away many that worked before I knew this. Now, I replace t
MH>battery as the first step.

Another Bucket Item for me. I have a battery discharge testing unit
for use with a computer. I used to use it regulalry whne I was active in
a local Ham Emergency communications group to test batteries that people
got donated to see how good they were.
As a side note when I worked at my local VA Medical center one of my
accociates was in a similar group and I would donate batteries i was
required to replace that were used in Critical Patient Care Equipment.
