Here it's high winds + ice + snow etc. Your basic "Heavy Atlantic
Low" combined with an airstream from Greenland/ the northern icecap

A couple of ships in trouble (freak waves smashing bridges) , huge swells
in both the North Sea & eastern Atlantic (I'll bet the Scottish western
isles are getting a pounding).

Walked the dog up on the moors because the noise of the trees swaying
worried me (e.g. we lost a large old apple tree in the orchard) too much to
walk in the forest & the combo of snow on ice meant that at times the
wind pushed be backwards as if I was skiing.

It's why I love doing "wire work" (i.e. sit at home & work
via the net). Saves all the either (a) driving to manchester airport >
Arlanda (Stockhom).......& back on a friday &/or driving
Scarborough Leeds. Just sit in after dog walking at 7.30 &
watch the snow fall......horizontally......

Environmentally friendly, & low risk e.g. driving to leeds & back
the last few days would have been muy dangerous & if flying back from
Stockholm today (a) the landing would be fun given the wind & (b) I
would then have to drive over the pennines in a blizzard (not that fun).
