I know you were making a joke here but believe it or not when our
dive team is looking for a recovery item in separate groups, divers blow the
whistles underwater to alert the other divers that the object of the search
has been found. After hearing the whistle, divers surface and proceed with
the next objective or evidence collection. I know what you are thinking...
whistles don't work underwater... right? If you cup your hands and blow the
whistle down into your air pocketed hands, it works fine and the sound
travels great! This has saved us allot of bottom time searching for a victim
that has already been found by another group.
