Hello Brad, BL> First off, I just bought a BRAND NEW USR 28800 Sportster Voice, Model BL> 1171. Ser# 0011710049209346, and it is BUGGIER than an ant hill. This BL> is the second one I've tried. The first did nothing but cause pain for BL> my users. CRC errors when uploading and downloading, pauses, crashes, BL> keyboard freezes, the works. After consulting with a fellow sysop I BL> took the first one back and exchanged it for this one. After BL> installing it (the second one) and playing with the registers and BL> programmable dip switches, I finally managed to get it on-line. I was BL> able to get rid of the CRC errors by disabling the 33.6 feature by BL> setting the S32 register to 16. HOWEVER... Now, when I get users at BL> speeds greater than 19200, they get GARBAGE on their screens; users at BL> 19200 and less still have their keyboards freeze up, and not knowing BL> that all they have to do is wait and the modems will start talking BL> again, end up doing the 3 finger salute on their end, crashing the BL> board... Could it be that your phone line does not support the higher speeds that vfc/v34 offer and that 14.4K/19.2K is the limit that it will support. Have you borrowed another brand of vfc/v34 modem to try out on your system yet? As you might find that that modem will also display the same problems. Do both of your machines have 16550uart's installed? What speed are you locking the computermodem link at? 57.6K is plenty for a 28.8K/33.6K modem Stephen ... "Then that's it?....
