well apparently some people find it useful... there's another mail
reader that was discussed in alt.comp.virus or comp.virus a couple weeks
ago that would launch attatchments at the click of a button...

if you're careful about the addons then there's no problem... a gif
viewer isn't going to hurt anyone... however, you can be given a
trojanized add-on and that makes things considerably less secure...
