One more argument from me:
Code written against Xt in 1997 would still compile and run today, and
will probably work as long as X11 is a thing.
Code written against GTK in 1998 (when it was released) won't compile
and run against GTK2 and GTK2 code won't compile and run against GTK3,
and GTK4 is on the horizon.
With great power comes frequent need to update code.
