how proprietary? is it such a situation that you cannot use the drive case
and do something of your own for power supplies? i built my external
cabinets (yes, several) out of plexiglass and i use standard PC power
supplies to power the drives in those home built enclosures... i can't
fathom something built in such a way that you can't cut a hole in it to
feed in standard power supply leads...

FWIW: on my enclosures, i follow the old world ways and power the external
enclosures first before powering the computer they are attached to ;)
