Well he should know his stuff as he's charged with maintaining
Windows networks for the ATF.

Might take some really close examination with a magnifier glass and
good light, usually somewhere on the edge of the board and quite
possibly on the back of the case on the system.
You could look for an FCC number on the back of the box as well
as this was how I identified a salvaged software modem
and google to me right to their site.
Still haven't gotten around to looking for my Pentiums M.B.
number as that projects on hold till I get another drive.

Never had any luck with serial numbers, model numbers aren't generally
too helpful either.
Hint: putting "keyword" around your search parameters at google does
              ^ ^
exact matching of keywords, model numbers, whatever.
Also checking BIOS versions on POST has been helpful in tracking down
information about a system for me.
Actually I'm in the same boat with you on this Pentium as I'll
have to tear all the hardware out to really check out this board
for a number :-(
I have _some_ jumper info on my case on a sticker that tells me what to
move for MMX and non-MMX and I can research those chips and find out
what core voltage those jumppers control.
However thanks for spurring me to look as the CMOS battery was
leaking and it looks like I removed it just in time!
Man Packard Bell and NEC make all this unneccesarily difficult.
BTW what's your system's brand?
