Tell me, how many times have you gone to the altar? How many times have
you been "born again?" What we get in the Charismatic cult is what is
commonly called, "retreads." These people are born again, and again, and
again, and again. Why? Because some don't FEEL like they have been saved,
so they head for the altar, again. Some aren't sure their EXPERIENCE was
real, so they head to the altar, again. Some aren't sure they are born again
because they don't speak in tongues, so they head for the altar, again.
However, I found out the truth and never have to walk up the isle again.
I know I have eternal life. We are told we can know for sure we are born
again and have eternal life. (1 John 5:13)
Believe me, it was very difficult to admit I was wrong in what I believed
and practiced for years, and it took a little time for me to understand the
truth. I realize I was depending upon my EXPERIENCE for truth.
Notice the next time you try to tell someone the truth about tongues, how
they will quickly recall their "experiences." Notice they won't be
interested in DOCTRINE, which is primarily why the Scriptures were written
(2 Tim. 3:16).
If one insist experiences are the basis for scriptural truth, then the person
is plainly rejecting the word of God based on his experiences. If the truth
should be known, I would rather feel embarrassed about the past than to live
"willfully in ignorance."
Let us have the faith and courage to judge our emotional and spiritual
experiences by God's Holy Book. It's one thing to be deceived, but another
to live in willful ignorance. After all, Paul says a person who wants to be
stupid, let him be stupid (1 Cor. 14:38).
Let us work at getting our "doctrine" straight. We need to be in churches
that stress doctrine. In the Bible we are told to "heed it" (1 Cor. 4:16),
and "give attendance" to it (1 Tim. 4:13). We cannot separate doctrine and
scripture (2 Tim. 3:16).
Still want to claim unknown tongues? Then please answer these questions
as aptly put by Hugh F. Pyle (The Truth about Tongues and the Charismatic
Movement):
How can Pentecostals, Roman Catholics, Episcopalians, Jesus freaks, hippies,
long-haired effeminate males, nightclub entertainers, religious liberals and
rock musicians all have the same "religious" experience? If this is a bona
fide experience, why did Jesus not speak in tongues, nor advocate it? Why is
it never mentioned in any letter to the New Testament churches except
Corinth, the carnal, "baby" church? What kind of "tongues" experiences do
the Hindus, the Buddhists and other non-Christians have? How do Spiritists
and Mormons pull it off? Why did Mark alone mention the word "tongues"
among all of the Gospel writers, and that only once? Why did the great
Spirit-filled soul winners of history carefully avoid telling us about
tongues if they are important? Why do the leading men among fundamental,
soul-winning churches and the great evangelists of today never speak in
tongues? Why do the Charismatics not use their "tongues" gift to carry the
Gospel to those of other languages on foreign mission fields? What brings
about the use of such unscriptural terms as "getting the baptism," "seeking
the gifts" or "initial evidence?" If this tongues experience is really a
"Pentecostal" experience, then were are the visible "tongues of fire"
sitting on them, and where is the rushing mighty wind filling the house?
More important, why do we not witness the genuine salvation of multitudes of
souls, as the Pentecost? Why are so many woman involved in tongues when the
plain command of Paul in 1 Cor. 14 was "....let the women keep silent?" Why
do all subsequent references to God's gifts in the Bible never include
tongues? And why is it not mentioned as a "fruit of the Spirit" in Galatians
5?
Can you answer those questions?
