After corresponding with the author, of spciirq, he recommended that I
switch my Nic with Modem and turn of my onboard usb ports. Learning
about links and IRQs, I tried a few different card positions, but found
that anywhere I place the modem, it will try to share with a usb
channel and not work if the channel is active.
The PCI bus has for links to IRQ lines represented by four pins on each
device. Different slots have the plugs in different order so that by
moving a card to a different slot will have it's IRQ pin on a different
link. Some cards can share the link, my modem will not. My USB 2.0 card
uses three links, the onboard USB uses the fourth. There are no lines
left, hence my problem. SPCIIRQ can change the IRQ number to a link but
not individual devices.
I ended up putting the modem on the link the EHCI channel uses since
there is only one internal port. So I now have 4 working OHCI ports,
two ext. UHCI and two int. UHCI ports. Would someone explain what the
difference is between OHCI and EHCI usb ports?
Thanks,
Franklin
