| subject: | MBs ABIT |
JH> JE> ASUS isn't the only one with MB problems. I have an
JH> JE> ABIT MB - KG7 that will not work with XP PRO or 2000. The
JH> JE> case I am using has a 300W PS. I can install both XP or 2000
JH> JE> error free. On the first boot after installation it comes up
JH> JE> with "boot device unavailable" or words to that effect, but
JH> JE> will boot in safe mode. After about a half dozen tries with
JH> JE> each system I gave up - got a different MB. Still putting it
JH> JE> together in a new case.
JH>I guess too late now, but I'm wondering if you looked to see if ABIT has
JH>come up with any BIOS code revisions for the KG7??
Nope, not too late at all. Would you believe I forgot to do
that?
JH>Also, what is your new MB, and does it work OK with all the same cpu,
JH>memory, HDD, OS, and etc. ?
The new MB is a Gigabyte GA-7DX+. New CPU AMD Athlon XP2000
1.67 GHz. Still in the assembly stage. I have to take the
Video card out of the system that wont properly load XP or
2000. Slow process but I'll get there.
Had a bit of a problem with the front panel USB connector.
The pins on the MB are 2 rows of 5 with one of the ground
pins missing which happens to be the ground for the 4 pin
connectors from the MB front! (stupid thing for them to do)
Finally solved that problem - Found a double 5 pin block and
transferred the wires from the front panel wiring harness to
this. Presto - no more problem.
Drs. appointments tomorrow - stress test - so computers will
have to wait.
Thanks for the input.
