Subject: Blind Mothers
Hi Everyone,
I am in the process of writing an article and perhaps a book about blind
mothers. There is not a lot of information out there. Since I too am a
blind mother, I thought it would be an interesting topic.
I would greatly appreciate it if any blind mothers could email me
privately, as not to clog up the list, with any information you care to
share with me. Some questions I have are:
What were the attitudes of others when you told them you were having a baby?
What adjustments and/or adaptations did you make so that it would be easier
to take care of the child?
What have been areas that have been difficult to handle?
Do you have any suggestions or hints for other blind mothers?
Are there reasources in your area to assist blind mothers?
Do you have any interesting stories concerning being a blind mother?
Whart were your concerns about being able to take care of your baby?
What are your concerns at this point in your child's life? How old is the
child?
If one of you could cross-post this to other lists and or ask other blind
mothers that you know to answer these questions, I would greatly appreciate
it.
I know that I am asking a lot, but hopefully this article and book will be
able to help other blind mothers and maybe bring some awareness to the
sighted community. If this book evercomes to be, I will try to acknowledge
all the people who responded to these questions.
Many thanks,
Janet Ingber
P.S. Fathers are more than welcome to respond too.
