| subject: | _BEGINTHREAD() VERSUS DOS |
EG>I have a very serious problem... In the redbook of os/2 v2.0 there is
EG>the following text:
EG>``The _beginthread() function provided by the C compiler should be used
EG>to create secondary threads that will contain object windows or that
EG>contain code which calls C run-time library functions. This function
EG>maintains certain internal C library control data that is, by default,
EG>not maintained by the DosCreateThread() function.''
EG>Easy... but how about the following text:
EG>``The DosCreateThread() function provided by OS/2 may be used to create
EG>secondary threads that will not contain object windows and that do not
EG>call C run-time library functions.''
EG>I understand the part of the object windows, but what do they mean with
EG>the ``C run-time library functions?''
The first one says that you need to use C's beginthread function because
it initializes the C runtime library. The second one says that you can
use OS/2's beginthread function as long as you don't use the C runtime
library in that thread. Those are the two sides of the same statement
to me.
