Today's report says that NASA not thinks the Wheel Well was breached
letting in 3000 degree gas from the re-entry.  Not sure where, possibly a
loss of a leading edge tile, a failure/rupture of the wheel well seals. 
They don't think that the loss of one tile though would do it.

Story is on CNN (as I'm sure other places).
