I was on a city bus here in Manhattan yesterday when a bunch of fire
engines and hazmat trucks started converging on Columbus Circle, the site
of the under-construction AOL skyscraper.  I counted a half-mile of traffic
backed up, 11 fire engines that I could see and 6 hazmat trucks from three
departments.  The police and fire cars were to numerous to count, and
traffic on the other side of Broadway was backed up for a mile.  This has
to cost.

I saw nothing at all of this on the news last night.  There was a brief
mention of one major bridge closing -- a suspicious truck, later proved to
be just stolen, and not bearing terrible things.
