Hello All,
Last spring I wrote for opinions on any steel frame road
bikes, but then I had a bit of a money set back and I had
to delay the purchase. Now my set back is gone and I am
able to buy. Since winter is on it's way and I'm not going
to ride a new steel bike on salty roads, I have time to
choose carefully. Also the hip pain I had at the time
that made me thinking about a triple chain ring crank set,
is now long gone so I can now say make mine a double. I
will be looking in the $ 1,000 to 1,500 U.S. dollar range.
I have always rode Cro-Mo steel frames and like thier ride.
My preferences are for 53/39t chain rings and cogs from 11
to 24t. My current road bike is a Pannasonic DX-3000 from
the mid 80's. It has a sport-touring type geometry that gives
a nice ride and hands off stability, but it is not great for
tight corners. I would like something that will turn quicker
but still be good for centuries. Also I like being able to
have both hands free for removing or putting on my jacket or
eating snack bars on the go. As far as the componant group
goes I am totaly undecided, I have always admired Campy stuff
but more after market companies seem to sell Shimano compatable
hubs, cogs ect. It would be nice if the rear derailure could
handle up to a 26 tooth cog.
Any recomendations, opinions, comments or compleatly unrelated
information would be appreciated.
