If the seats were stainless steel, maybe they'd have to resort to tearing and scribbling on their lounges at home. I'd rather travel in a carriage with a stainless steel (and clean) interior rather than what is available now. If I commuted daily and over a distance, I'd bring my own small pillow to counteract the hardness of the bare steel seats. DB>Not much choice here .. the only "real" solution is to "strike" at the DB>vandals themselves, rather than trying to patch-up the trains. :-( True, although because the majority of the offenders are juveniles, much of the punishment consists of slaps on the wrists.
