Your reply-post reflects a part of how I think and understand things, and it
allowed me a rare sense of fresh air in here. So thank you Stephen Harris!

However, it is a shame that the chance of even the most aptly articulated
insight/feedback getting through to those with hidden (including from
themselves) agendas (motivations) is so very low.

Personally, I put 'evolution-philosophical blame' (partly involving
evolutionary psychology type theoretical thinking) on this fact (i.e., that
your position of understanding, and attempt to sort things out, won't be
easily emulated, in this case by McGinn) by help of a 'principle'
conceptualized, and apparently so far only clearly recognized, by me.

That is, what I have recognized and tried to conceptualize is a through-out
the phylogeny of animals frequently formed pattern of naturally
selective/evolutionary pressures that have tended to give rise to what may
be superficially described as: "ambi-advantageously evolved" [thus
pragmatically expressed for a concEPT-building (or acronym assembling)
purpose] coping and/or survival solutions. More precisely, I am specifically
thinking of (and thereby attempting to address) situations (lived by
individuals) in which an evolutionary pressure [what I mean by "evolutionary
pressure" is not, at least not neccessarily, a force, but a concept or
explanatory/metaphorical super-"categorical description" (am referring to
your post)] created by any (one or more) environmental Opportunity (-type
evolutionary pressure) overlap (or coincide) with an evolutionary pressure
from some "Hibernation imploring" [~ requiring the prevention of a
flight/fight type reaction, or, IOW, demanding the curbing of a distressful
focuse of futile/self-defeating "actention"] environmental adversity (type
evolutionary pressure); Etcetera...
