Just had a look at the PCI/PCMCIA pinouts and FYI there are indeed 2
card ID lines, ID1 and ID2. That solves the mystery for me, thank you!
Pulling out the card does reset some bits in the MB support LSI (cmos).
Then the POST throws the clock error to force checking the settings.
Maybe it's just this particular bios that behaves this way. I'll have to
see if its the same on another machine...
