Just to throw something in here to all, not just Roy as addressed. Most home 
scale utility-intertied and stand-alone wind generators do make ac power, but 
for the most part the frequency is moot. Most, via their controllers, end up 
rectifying either single or three phase into DC, and then the DC is inverted 
and used at home or a synchronous inverter is used to put the power back to 
the grid.
