Beans are good too. You might try putting just a few pellets on top of
the beans occasionally, kind of like "topping". He may not eat them, but
it'll get him used to seeing them, anyway.

He's still young. When he wakes up in the AM, he's FULL of energy, and
has to burn it off. You might try holding him on your hand over a bed,
and letting him flap his wings while you gently move your arm up and
down. This is called "bird aerobics". (Doing it over the bed prevents
him from falling to the floor if he lets go...). This may help him burn
off some of that excess energy so he doesn't spend as much time trying
to fly off his cage later on.
