Hmm, the T series Thinkpad I have (P2 266Mhz) is running quite happily
for many months without a battery in it. Newer models may have this
path, but this one doesn't.
The issue with requiring the battery in the machine is that these
batteries will develop severe memory if these are constantly plugged
into poer (i.e. desktop replacement) I discovered this with my Thnkpad,
and destroyed a battery. That's why it sits without a battery in it. I
alos have a Dell Latitude 2.0Ghz machine. I pulled the battery from it
before I ever plugged in power. It is also humming along merrily
without a battery in its battery bay.
